Jessie Sharpe
Obituary
SHARPE, Jessie Welch (Peacock) Age 91, of Melville Heights, Halifax, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Friday, December 10, 2010 of natural causes. Born in Fredericton, NB, she was a daughter of the late Fletcher and Stella (Crocker) Peacock. Jessie was a firm believer in education, and was schooled at the Saint John Vocational School, the Saint John High School, the University of New Brunswick (B Sc.), the Columbia University (M Sc.), and finally the University of Calgary, (B Ed.). She married Rev. Donald Sharpe in 1947, and his ministry led to serving in many communities across Canada, and even into New York. She worked in schools for over 25 years finishing her career as Director of Special Student Services for the Protestant School Board of Western Quebec. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She believed in and supported her family, community, church, education, and contributed regularly to many charities, including Amnesty International, Voice of Women, EcoJustice, the United Church of Canada, Oxfam, and the University of New Brunswick. She will be sadly missed by her children Andrew (Cynthia), Ottawa and James (Helen), Halifax; grandchildren Brendan, Susan and David; brother Weston, Toronto. She was predeceased by her husband Rev. Donald A. Sharpe, granddaughter Sandra, sister Margaret Kolenda and brother Fletcher Peacock. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB (506-364-1300) where the funeral service will be held on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11 am, followed by burial in the Sackville Cemetery. A memorial service for Mrs. Sharpe will be held at her cherished home in Murray Corner, New Brunswick in the summer of 2011. Those wishing to make a donation in Mrs. Sharpe's memory may do so to one of her favorite charities, or one of your own. www.jonesfuneralhome.ca
