It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Gerald Allison Smith,
regret to announce his sudden passing on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at
the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Albert Co., N.B., he was the son of the late Vernon and Etta
(Sprague) Smith.
A veteran of the Second World War, Gerald served as an aero-engine
mechanic with the RCAF. He was a member of First United Church,
Sydney and for 35 years, was employed at Canada Mortgage and Housing.
Gerald enjoyed spending time camping, gardening and taking long walks.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Rose; sons, Gerald Jr., Howie
Centre and George (Debbie), Riverview, N.B.; grandchildren, Jeffrey
Smith, Halifax, Jenna (John) MacAulay, Howie Centre, Brent (Kristy)
Smith, Dartmouth and Tracy Smith, Halifax; great-grandchildren,
Rebecca MacAulay and Luke Smith.
Gerald was predeceased by his brother, Reginald and daughter-in-law,
Rose (Robertson) Smith.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday from
2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at First United
Church on Monday 1 p.m., with Rev. Wade Reppert officiating.
Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
