Ervin P. "Erv" Lockert April 9, 1928 – September 9, 2011 Erv passed away on September 9, 2011 at the age of 83. Ervin Phillip Lockert was born to Jacob and Ruth (Rystrom) Lockert on April 9, 1928 in West Chicago, IL. He spent his childhood in West Chicago graduating from West Chicago Community High School where he enjoyed playing football. On May 14, 1948, Erv married Carol F. Steadman in West Chicago. A carpenter by trade, Erv completed his apprenticeship in West Chicago and the couple lived there until 1962 when Erv and Carol joined Erv's two brothers, Danny and Jack Lockert to sell their businesses and come to the Plateau Valley of Colorado to try their hands at ranching and creating the Flying L. Ranch in Mesa, Colorado. Erv and his brothers were the first to bring Charolais cattle to the area. Erv and Carol returned to West Chicago in 1968 but were drawn back to their beloved Colorado in 1973 where Erv worked in multiple business opportunities including construction, Lockert & Dettmer Enterprises (land improvement) and he and Carol's passion, Idle Hour Antiques. Erv enjoyed competitive pistol shooting, hunting and trapping in his younger years. Erv was always tinkering with cars and was very handy, building and remodeling homes. Later in life he and Carol enjoyed refinishing antique furniture and traveling in their motor home spending winters in Arizona and Nevada. Erv enjoyed the outdoors and had a true fondness for animals, particularly his many dogs over the years. Erv was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Lockert and by his wife, Carol. Erv is survived by his brother, Jack Lockert; daughters, Cindy Whalen, Susan Ward, Jody Oster, and Terri Wright; seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Erv was a kind and giving person and he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. A memorial service honoring Erv's life will be held on Friday, September 30, 10:00 a.m. at the Grace Point Church with Pastor Sikes presiding.
